  • Dry cleaning and vacuuming
    These methods are good for light cleaning.
  • Hot water extraction
    Also known as HWE or steam cleaning, this is the most common method used by professionals.
  • Machine washing
    If your rug is small and labeled as machine washable, you can shake it outside and then wash it in the washing machine with warm water and a mild detergent. Tumble dry on low heat.
  • Beating
    If you have a larger rug that's easy to pick up, you can shake it outside, beat it on a clothesline, and then vacuum it.
